HARVEY, Debra Lee age 60, of Bellbrook passed away on Monday, January 23, 2012. Debbie was a 1969 graduate of Fairmont West High School and a 1973 graduate of Wright State University with her degree in Education. She later earned her Masters Degree from the University of Dayton. After college, she taught at J.E. Prass Elementary where she retired after 35 years. Debbie was a very caring and compassionate woman. She was a beloved daughter, mother and friend. Deb enjoyed teaching and spending quality time with friends and family. Debbie was preceded in death by her mother, Melva Price. She is survived by her daughter, Jennifer Waitzman; father, Robert Thygerson; and many other family members, friends, and co-workers at J.E. Prass Elementary. Family will greet friends from 4:30-6:30pm on Thursday, January 26, 2012 at ROUTSONG FUNERAL HOME, 81 N. Main Street, Centerville. A memorial service will be held following the visitation at 6:30pm at the funeral home. Gifts in Debbie's name may be made to J.E. Prass Elementary Student Fund, In memory of Debbie Harvey, 2601 Parklawn Drive, Kettering, OH 45440. Debbie’s dad, Robert (Bob) Thygerson taught music at Fairmont West. He died in Safety Harbor, Florida in 2017 at the age of 95.
Debbie often visited the Wilmington-Stroop Library looking for materials for her classroom. She would also tutor students at the library. I had the pleasure of visiting her classroom twice a year as a representative from the public library.
